Easter Cake!

Just over a week ago, we celebrated Easter. For dessert I made a two tiered cake with two layers in each tier. I covered it with cream cheese icing and garnished it with mini eggs. Last week I made angel food cake for the first time and yesterday I made ladyfinger sponge, which is a light spongy cake. I really enjoy baking and learning new things, especially if they turn out (which they don’t always do J)!  In the past couple of months, I’ve learned how to make things that I didn’t even know how to pronounce before, such as challah (hol-ah), which is a braided bread. I really enjoy working in the bakeshop!

Vocational Awareness

Vocational awareness day was a bit crazy no doubt. Our chef went home sick so as a group, we got everything ready just in time. Even if that meant that some of us had to stay late the day before!

The Vocational Awareness day was to promote our course. All of the RRTVA courses that are offered at NPC were all in the commons and were trying to promote their course as well.

Most of the desserts we had gotten ready the day before the awareness day. All we had to do was complete them and put it all together. Someone had already gotten all of the chocolate into the cups for the mousse, and so all they had to do was put the whipped cream and hazelnut crumb on top.

The cupcakes were all baked so all we had to do was decorate them, and with the choux paste, all that needed to be done was for them to be filled, placed in the little cups, and chocolate drizzled on top.

The desserts we were displaying weren't hard to make, well for us anyway :) We had 3 very different desserts, each one being spectacular and award winning!!

Our 3 desserts that we had were...... Chocolate Mousse, Choux Paste, and both Chocolate and Vanilla Cupcakes. (My favorite was the Mousse!)

The experience was really different, with not having any chef and being on a tight time line with getting everything done. I really enjoyed it though.

Titanic Anniversary Cake

Last week, I did this Titanic Anniversary cake, but things aren't going as they expected. The fondant was dry, I try to form the fondant to the way it was but it had dried piece which to me makes it useless and it's brittle when trying to make the shape of the ship. Also is the butter cream icing I used made the cake dry so that it's thrown, it should be used for cake pops. Next time if I made an Anniversary cake, I better give the new one some improvements.
