Blog start #4

I’m going to wright about my rainbow cupcakes because they were so good. They were one of my favorite things to make because I love cupcakes. I’ve got more than one favorite cupcake and they are the rainbow ones and banana chocolate chip cupcakes. I also like the plain vanilla cupcakes because you can decorate them with anything and that is so much fun. I love the way I did the icing and the sprinkles because they made it look good and taste good because cupcakes are easy to make and it is so much fun making them.

Service With a Smile!
I'm not sure what we baked this day but Shailyn was piping chocolate! We'll just say she really gets into it! The mechanical dishwasher also suffered another break-down so Shay and I got to wash a literal mountain of dishes. But through all of our pain and hardship, we smiled!

Mother's Day Cake
In a panic to get my mom a gift for Mother's Day, I suggested that all of us make cakes for our moms. Thankfully Mrs. Nikkel liked the idea! I instantly knew which flavor to make mine, my mom's favourite combination: CHOCOLATE & PB! So on the weekend, after successfully hiding the cake from my mom for a few days, we devoured layer upon layer of rich ganache and smooth PB sauce.

Frustrated Perfectionist Cake :)
I think the picture ad title explain the whole story. I was given an order one day from a woman wanting a "Happy Retirement" cake for a friend of her's. Mrs. Nikkel was a huge help with showing me pictures of possible ways to decorate it and I really liked one she had printed. My goal was to mimic that picture and this was the result! I was very pleased with my fondant flowers as well as my piping work even though it didn't set quite right.

Alhambra

From the moment I read "Alhambra" on the checklist to the morning before a plated my
half-Alhambra cake, I wasn't too enthused about making it (Hate to break it to you Mrs. Nikkel). The recipe was daunting and I couldn't perfect the spreading of ganache over it's semi-circle shape so it was just another thing to check off the list. That is until I swirled some cocoa-ed Chantilly on top and dropped a few hazelnuts on top! Right away I was getting showered with compliments on my nothing-extraordinary cake. Thanks for boosting my self confidence baking team!

For the plated dessert challenge (long ago) I decided to go with something bright and fruity! After I made this simply complex tart, it was voted the winner and was re-created to serve at a VIP lunch in our classroom.
